Frequently Asked Questions

Suitable for balanced, oily, combination, dry skin and hormonally ageing skin.

As oestrogen levels decline, skin’s natural cell turnover can slow down, causing dead skin cells to build up on the surface. This can leave skin looking dull, rough and less radiant. Exfoliation helps support smoother, brighter-looking skin by encouraging surface renewal.

AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser combines chemical and physical exfoliation to help remove dull, dry skin and improve texture. Glycolic and lactic acids help smooth the skin’s surface, while salicylic acid helps cleanse pores for clearer, more radiant-looking skin

Contains salicylic acid (BHA), glycolic and lactic acids (AHAs), jojoba beads, sodium PCA and licorice extract.

Most skin types can use this cleanser 2–3 times per week. If you are new to exfoliating acids or have sensitive skin, gradually introduce the product into your routine to help minimise irritation.

Many find it gentle, but people with very reactive skin may experience dryness or irritation; patch test before regular use.

While this product was not specifically tested to impact skin clarity, users report seeing a reduction in reduced blackheads and clearer pores. Yes. Hormonal skin changes can contribute to rough texture, dullness and congestion. Regular exfoliation can help support smoother, brighter and healthier-looking skin while improving the appearance of uneven texture associated with hormonal ageing.

It uses 3 types of chemical exfoliants plus physical exfoliants to dissolve and polish away dead skin cells, promoting cell turnover for smoother, clearer, brighter skin over time.

Reviews

This is a wonderful product.

"This is a wonderful product. When I go to the salon for a facial they always ask what product I use. I exfoliate twice a week when I wash my hair. Amount of product: I use about a quarter size in the palm of my hand. It keeps my face smooth and free of any adult acne. I also use the cleanser everyday and night. I have been using this combination of products for the last five plus years. I am just turning 60 and also use other products from this company for my skin care needs."

Favorite cleanser yet!

"I’ve been using this cleanser for years now (i use the bigger bottle, and it lasts me about a year!). My skin has never felt better. Other cleansers do not do it justice. Leaves my skin feeling incredibly soft, yet moisturized. I always get compliment on it thanks to this cleanser :)"

AHA/BHA EXFOLIATING CLEANSER FOR ACNE

"Back in the early 1990's I saw Dr. Murad in his offices. I suffered from cystic acne since my youth. He recommended this cleanser, and have been using this cleanser, along with his others cleansers since then. At this time in my life, early 1990's, health insurances used to pay for the facials, and treatments that helped cured my skin condition. Dr. Murad's tinted mineral sunblock, which he no longer manufacturers was another helpful cure. Dr. Murad's are the only skin care products I use to this day in 2026."

Must Have

"I have been using this cleaner for years. It is the one thing in my skincare routine that I have not had to change because it just works. It tackles so many issues from darkspots, dry skin, even acne. Never too young or old for this cleanser. I almost cried when Ulta told me it had been replaced by something else only to find that was not the case. A bottle lasts me a year."

Jasmine (5/5)

Extremely sensitive skin

"I have acne and eczema prone skin and this cleared my skin and brought so much hydration and glow back to my skin. You truly see the difference in just 2 washes."

Murad cleanser

"I had never used a skin care range. Every now and then I’d buy Nivea. I heard from my daughter how good Murad was. I have rosacea and psoriasis and have sensitive skin. This skin care range is amazing, highly recommend."

Q&A

Does this contain any soy (or derived from soy) or any lactose containing ingredients?
No, it does not contain soy.
I see that the skin smoothing polish is discontinued- how would you compare the two? I loved the skin smoothing polish.
The Skin Smoothing Polish exfoliated with jojoba beads and offered ingredients to help control oil and also protect against free radical damage. The AHA BHA Exfoliating Cleanser has the jojoba beads as well as glycolic, lactic and salicylic acid so you get the benefit of chemical and manual exfoliation.
What percentage of salicylic acid, lactic acid, and glycolic acid are in this product?
First let me start by stating that we disclose the percentage of an ingredient only when it is an “active ingredient” in other words, an OTC (over-the-counter), FDA (Food & Drug Administration) approved ingredient. Here at Murad, as part of our Corporate policy, we do not disclose percentages in our high performance formulations as this information is considered proprietary. What I can share with you is that Dr. Murad creates formulas based on a result not a percentage. Our products are designed to treat a specific concern within the skin, keeping in mind our Whole-Person Health approach.
Is this product unisex?
Yes! You can use the products. Murad products are formulated to address specific skincare concerns. They are not made for a specific age, gender or ethnicity.
Can I use a hydrating mask after I use the AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser?
You most certainly can!
